The film sector globally has awoken to the power and importance of stories that are told about women and by women. Although there is more voice being given to women in film in Africa, our presence, at a senior creative level and behind the camera is scant. It is time for this to change as we have always been the carriers of our, her and his story.
It is why Women in Doc puts us at the centre of seeing the world through our eyes. We present feature-length documentaries and docu-series that give voice to African stories, that are female-led but not specifically focused on stories about us. Showcasing films created, driven and led by women.
While we frame our stories within the African continent, with roots in South Africa, our documentaries will speak to both local, regional and international audiences. Each will have a global and universal appeal as we uncover the little-known stories behind well-covered mainstream media chronicles. Stories that show who we are and what we see in the world.
